The Celtic Tenors

In October 1995, James Nelson, Niall Morris and Paul Hennessey made their "Three Irish Tenors" debut on R.T.E.'s 'Theatre Nights' live from Goffs in County Kildare. There followed three exciting years of sellout shows and television appearances. In 1998, Paul Hennessey left the group to pursue his blossoming solo career. Enter Matthew Gilsenan.

In 2000, Matthew Gilsenan, James Nelson and Niall Morris, "The Three (Young) Irish Tenors" became The Celtic Tenors with their own distinctive style and signed their world-side deal with EMI.

Matthew Gilsenan hails from County Meath and has won critical acclaim for his oratorio perfomances including Beethoven's Mass in C, Mendlessohn's Christmas Oratorio, and Handel's Messiah. James Nelson is a son of County Sligo and a graduate of University College Dublin. His busy opera and concert schedule has taken him throughout the UK and Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Russia, Isreal, Singapore, and the USA. Niall Morris was born in Dublin and has studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and the National Opera Studio. He has performed at the Almeida Theatre in London and toured with the d'Oyly Carte Opera Company as Ralph Backstraw in HMS Pinafore.
