Mike Shaffer

Known for his steady tempos and patient encouragement of young Irish dancers, Mike Shaffer is widely known as one of the leading accompanists and promoters of traditional Irish dance music. Since his first feis in 1980 he has been in demand both nationally and internationally as a player at feisanna.

Mike’s career started in Akron, Ohio at a very young age. He learned the traditional styles and repertoire from his father, Gordon Shaffer, himself a renowned accordian player for Irish dancing.

As a popular fixture at many North American championships and regional oireachtas, Mike Shaffer has witnessed first-hand both the evolvement of Irish dancing and the need for tempo variation in the music itself.

Mike was honored with an invitation from An Coimisuin for the World Championships of Irish Dancing and played in Dublin, Ireland at the 1995 Oireachtas Rince Na Cruinne.
